Great game, I played through it in one day which is very uncommon for me. My only gripe is the "twist" in the very end is a bit silly and left me thinking a majority of this conflict could have been resolved much earlier if the characters would have communicated better. There are zones where you can't just rush through or you will be punished for sure (enemies chase you outside of their screen). The gradual difficulty curve I found to be very smooth so no fight ever really felt out of place. Combat for the first few hours of the game wasn't very difficult though it was still very enjoyable and from then on it ramps up in difficulty. There is also quite a bit of humor with the little penguin henchmen who work for the shopkeep. The story is deep enough and dialogue isn't drawn out so the action is never bogged down. The pacing is fantastic, the environments are varied and never get stale. I started thinking this around 3-4 hours in. Video games are really tough to do, as it’s almost impossible to give all players closure after they invest dozens of hours into a game and potentially have a completely different experience than another player. However, like with everything genre of media, some works really struck home, and others petered out before their completion. On the other side of the spectrum, massively successful titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate gave longtime gamers plenty to explore, unlock, and experience. Fortnite became a monolithic entity this year and brought countless new players to the world of gaming. The games of 2018 also managed to push the medium forward in both quality and scope.

Sure, it might not have been the powerhouse year that 2017 was, but there were still loads of unique and highly anticipated titles to play and discuss.
